Okehampton were very unlucky not to have come away from Appledore with at least a point after getting off to a flying start when Adam Mortimer was bought down inside the Appledore area and Argyle were awarded a penalty, Phillip Evans stepped up to slam home the opener from the spot. Okehampton should have been two goals to the good mid way through the first half when once again Adam Mortimer beat the off side trap and found the net only for the linesman to most unfairly flag him off side.
The very windy conditions favoured Okehampton in the first half and Appledore struggled to create any clear chances but unfortunately Argyle were unable to get a second goal that would have given them the cushion they needed for what was to prove a very difficult second half.
Appledore started the second half playing the ball long over the top of the Argyle defence and time after time the ball ran through to Argyles keeper Daniel Malcolm, the home side became very frustrated and this resulted in bookings for Ewan Butler and Carl Holliman for Appledore and Chris Wills and Robbie Miller for Argyle.
Appledore levelled the game on the hour when they won a series of corners and Argyle struggled to clear their lines No10 Steve Skinner shot through a crowd of players to level the game, Argyle battled hard to keep the game level but could not create any quality balls for the strike force of Mortimer and Williams and it was a sucker punch that won Appledore all three points when their keeper belted the ball up field wind assisted and clearing everyone and leaving their left winger Richard Havingham to lob over the advancing Daniel Malcolm to make it 2.1
On reflection it was a hard working performance by Argyle and one that deserved at least a point for playing the better football when the conditions allowed.
