Budleigh Salterton 2-0 Okehampton Argyle

Budleigh might be 14 points clear at the top of the Peninsula League but they had to work really hard for these three points against a very determined Argyle side that matched them in all departments. Budleigh became frustrated with the way this game was going and complained to the referee for just about everything during the first 45 minutes.
The second half was always going to be a tough one for Argyle with the game level at 0.0 Budleigh set up an attack early in the second half and with a lucky deflection their striker found himself through on goal to slot the ball in from close range. Worst was to come for Argyle when immediately they sprang another attack and chasing back to defend Phillip Evans made a rash challenge inside the area and the Budleigh centre forward made no mistake from the resulting penalty.
At this point it looked like a question of how many Argyle might concede but it was quite the opposite and Argyle enjoyed long periods of possession and pressured Budleigh into clearing the ball anywhere, Argyles Steve Williams was always a threat and kept the Budleigh defence busy with his pace and movement and the result might well have been different if only Argyle could have pulled a goal back.
