Crediton 2-2 Okehampton Argyle |
In a match that looked like their was only ever going to be one winner, fortunes turned for Argyle and they deservedly came away with a point. Crediton’s form really has improved over recent weeks and they enjoyed the better of the first 45 minutes taking the lead in the 25th minute with a ball over the top of the Argyle defence that found their striker. Keeper Daniel Malcolm looked like he had smothered the ball but somehow the ball was retrieved and scrambled into the net.
Things got worse for Argyle when immediately from the start of the second half, Crediton increased their lead when Argyle were on the attack with players committed forward, they lost the ball wide on the right and Crediton counter attacked adding a second goal through their No 10. Midway through the second half, Argyle’s Adam Mortimer was dismissed for a second yellow card. At this point, several Crediton players were already in the referee’s book, but football is a strange game and Adam’s misfortune was Argyle’s turning point.
Okehampton made a couple of substitutions and what an impact that had on the game with Mortimer junior coming on and determined to make up for his older brother’s dismissal, young Mathew was first to everything and delivered a superb cross for Steve Williams to pull a goal back for Argyle. At this point, the game had a good feeling about it for the Argyle faithful and substitute Steve Kinsey enjoyed plenty of possession as Crediton dropped deeper and deeper. Making good use of the ball Kinsey picked out Mathew Mortimer once again and cutting in from the left hand side he beat both central defenders then shifted the ball a yard and unleashed an unstoppable shot from the edge of the box making the game level and securing a point for Okehampton.
