Okehampton Argyle 3-2 Teignmouth |
Argyle on a roll after last weeks confidence boosting win against top of the table Stoke Gabriel Okehampton followed this up with a well deserved three points against Teignmouth, with the game evenly balanced and only half chances created during the first 30 minutes by both sides this was always going to be a close game.
Teignmouth opened the scoring when a harmless looking shot from wide out on the right wing could only be parried by the keeper and this left their centre forward to tap in from close range, Argyle were warded a penalty on the stroke of half time for handball and Robbie Miller stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way leveling the score.
Argyle started the second half really focused and immediately took the lead through Robbie Clarke after the ball was whipped across the area Clarke showed great control and composure lifting the ball over the Teignmouth keeper from close range. Teignmouth responded by enjoying a good period of play but Argyles defence and midfield worked tirelessly to keep them out and created further chances with some good service from both wings with Chris Wills and Robbie Sandercock getting up and down the field.
Slightly against the run of play a lapse of concentration at the back for Argyle allowed their centre forward to cut in from the right wing and hammer in the equaliser, with Argyle feeling hard done by and time running out it looked like the points were going to be shared but Wills and Sandercock had other ideas and linked up well leaving Robbie Sandercock to chip the keeper inside the area.
Elliott Collins stepped up from the reserves and played very well for Okehampton at left back helped and encouraged by the experienced Tim Williams in the centre of the Argyle defence, this was a very creditable result and after a poor start Argyle have started to turn their fortunes around.
